Football stadium, fan zone and public viewing: The UEFA European Football Championship 2024 is not only expected to attract large numbers of visitors in the host cities of Düsseldorf, Cologne, Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen. Large crowds may also gather wherever the European Championship matches are broadcast to the public. These events not only attract soccer fans and revelers, but criminals are also up to mischief. The issue of security plays a central role here.

The police are doing their best to ensure that the European Football Championships run peacefully and smoothly everywhere in their own country. But the fans in the stadium and the visitors at the "Rudelgucken" are also in demand. Despite all the exuberance: Pay attention to your safety.

At such large events, there is often a lively crowd. Pickpockets in particular like to take advantage of this. Excessive alcohol and drug consumption can also lead to arguments and fights. Everyone should therefore pay attention to their own safety and take a few tips to heart. Then nothing will stand in the way of an exuberant visit to the soccer stadium or public viewing.

Tips for your safety:

• Look out for each other. It is best to walk in a group and try to keep an eye on each other during the event.

• Only take as much cash and/or debit cards with you as necessary. If possible, carry them in various closed inside pockets of your clothing as close to your body as possible. 

   

• Pay attention to your drinks and those of your companions. Do not leave them open and unattended. 

   

• Refuse harassment and unwanted physical contact - even with people you know. Make it clear that you will not tolerate this behavior. 

   

• Ask others for help and help others in serious situations. 

   

• The carrying of weapons is prohibited at public events. Do not carry weapons or similar objects with you. If you observe others carrying them, inform the security service and/or the police immediately.
