A 49-year-old man from Geilenkirchen was driving on the main road in the direction of Gangelt on Monday, August 4, at around 12:00 noon. According to a witness, who was driving in the same direction in his car in front of the vehicle involved in the accident and wanted to turn left at Zur Platzmühle, two cars behind him had to wait due to traffic, as he wanted to let an oncoming truck pass. Apparently for unknown reasons, the 49-year-old driver drove past the three cars waiting in front of him on the left and collided with the truck. The 49-year-old was seriously injured and taken to hospital, where he later died. The police are now investigating how the accident could have happened.
