(jd) As part of a general traffic check, officers from the Herford district police authority checked an Audi with Gütersloh registration on Bünder Straße yesterday (26.11.) at around 3.00 pm. The vehicle was being driven by a 24-year-old Romanian, and a 22-year-old man, also from Romania and registered in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, was also in the car. The officers found various shopping bags containing drugstore items in the vehicle, for which the two men were unable to provide proof of ownership. An unusually large number of individual items, including razors and razor blades, were found. The officers also found a shopping bag that had been prepared in such a way as to prevent the triggering of a security system at the entrance to stores. A check of the police systems revealed that the 24-year-old is not in possession of a driver's license and that the 22-year-old has already made several police appearances for gang theft. Due to a possible risk of absconding, both were taken into custody in Herford. Further investigations, which have been taken over by the Herford criminal investigation department, are ongoing.
