Fake police officers on the phone

Most of the victims are elderly people. They are called on the phone by fraudsters who pretend to be police officers. The callers manipulate their victims by telling them convincing stories about recent crimes and asking them to hand over money, jewelry or valuables to supposedly protect their property. To achieve their goal, the perpetrators feign a personal relationship, pretend to be a public official or feign an emergency or accident.

The scam is well known and there are always victims in Gelsenkirchen. For this reason, our colleagues at the Crime Prevention / Victim Protection Department (KK KP/O) are informing the public!
